Melanie Duda

Melanie Duda is an associate attorney at the Southfield law office of Moss & Colella, P.C. She has been practicing law since admission to the State Bar of Michigan in 2013 and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. She has litigated cases involving civil rights, sexual assault, medical malpractice, and negligence. Melanie is active in professional and civic activities and is a member of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan.

Melanie is an experienced litigator in all areas of personal injury law including negligence, civil rights, and sexual harassment. She specializes in representing the victims of medical malpractice. Melanie is skilled at understanding the nuances of Michigan’s medical malpractice statutes, and the unique timing, notice, and pleading requirements the law places on people injured by health care professionals. Melanie received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2012. She was a member of the University of Detroit Mercy Law Review and served as a Symposium Editor. She holds a Master of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology, both from Wayne State University.

Outside of the courtroom, Melanie is the single mom of one son and two rescue dogs. Her hobbies include running, wilderness activities, yoga, and self-defense training. She is also involved with ScoutsBSA as a merit badge counselor and volunteer. Melanie’s professional memberships include the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) and Michigan Association for Justice (MAJ).

Medical Malpractice

An oral surgeon failed to properly diagnose a vascular lesion prior to surgery. The surgeon proceeded to remove it in a negligent fashion, causing life-threatening consequences.




The rescue devices at an apartment complex swimming pool were not up to code, leading to the drowning of an eight-year-old girl.



Police Brutality

An unarmed woman was wrongfully shot multiple times inside of her vehicle by the Dearborn Police Department, causing her death.



3rd Party Auto

Woman was rear-ended on Woodward Avenue by a semi-tractor trailer vehicle resulting in traumatic brain injury along with cervical and lumbar disc herniations.



Motorcycle/3rd Party Auto

A motorcyclist was rear-ended by a motor vehicle and catapulted from his bike causing the client to suffer disc herniations, disc bulges, and spinal fusion surgery.



Pedestrian/3rd Party Auto

Pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle resulting in a traumtic brain injury and fractured skull.



Pedestrian MACP

Pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle and the driver fled the scene. Client suffered a fractured skull, cervical disc herniation, and multiple lumbar and thoracic disc bulges. Because neither the Client nor any relatives in his household had insurance, Client filed a claim with the Michigan Assigned Claims Plan.
