Attorney Trio Named 2023 Michigan Super Lawyers For Excellence in Practice

VinceColella, and senior appellate counsel Matthew McCann have been selected to the 2023 Michigan Super Lawyers list. Reserved for lawyers who exhibit excellence in practice, Super Lawyers awards only 5% of attorneys in Michigan with this honor. All three attorneys devote 100% of their practice to litigation.

Now in his 16^th year on the Michigan Super Lawyers list, David M. Moss has been recognized in the category of Personal Injury General: Plaintiff. He has spent his nearly 40-year legal career entirely dedicated to his clients in personal injury law—representing victims and their families in a variety of injury cases against insurance companies, national corporations, hospitals, municipalities, and individual defendants. Known for his courtroom and advocacy skills, Moss has successfully argued at the appellate level, both before the Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court.  Also highly respected and regarded as a skilled negotiator, he is sought after by both plaintiff and defense attorneys seeking to retain outside counsel to advocate their cases.  In March, Moss was named to the Michigan Lawyers Weekly Hall of Fame Class of 2023, recognizing leading Michigan attorneys who have practiced law for at least 30 years and have made valuable contributions to the community through their successful legal careers.

Also honored in Personal Injury General: Plaintiff, A. Vince Colella marks his 13^th consecutive year as a Michigan Super Lawyer. His trial experience includes automobile negligence, police brutality and misconduct, premises liability, trucking accidents, insurance disputes, medical malpractice, sexual harassment, sexual assault, discrimination, and wrongful death. In recent years, he has gained a reputation for his trail blazing litigation efforts in government liability, recreational accidents and civil rights cases. Colella is respected by lawyers and judges as an aggressive, skillful and powerful trial lawyer, and known as a compassionate and relentless advocate by his clients. His insights are frequently sought by local and national media outlets, and he writes a monthly column, ‘Colella in Context,’ in the Detroit Legal News—exploring a variety of legal topics from the need to eliminate qualified immunity for police officers to complications involved with the law allowing physicians to directly seek payment from an auto insurance company for medical services rendered to an accident victim.

Since relocating from New York to Michigan in 2023, Matthew McCann is a first-time honoree on the Michigan Supers Lawyers list. Although recognized in the category of Schools and Education, he also practices in the areas of appellate law, civil rights, and personal injury. McCann joined Moss & Colella earlier this year as an experienced litigator in civil rights, special education, negligence matters, environmental torts, and business disputes and has been called upon to do significant appellate work in state and federal courts, as well as before administrative agencies, in tribunals throughout the country. He has meaningful experience in representing individual and institutional members of the financial industry in criminal and regulatory matters, as well as in employment-related negotiations and lawsuits. McCann also has a legal niche representing the families of students with autism and other special needs to help them navigate the educational system and advocate for a free appropriate public education and related services for their students, and has worked on a team in New York that handled all stages of federal litigation, from pleadings to negotiating settlements on behalf of students and parents.  Prior to Michigan Super Lawyers, he was recognized by New York Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” in both Criminal Defense: White Collar from 2015 – 2017 and in Employment Law in 2018, in addition to being named a New York Super Lawyer in Business Litigation in 2019 as well as in Education Law in 2020.
